I've been to Crater Lake about 8 times since 2000. Seven of those times I rode my bicycle from the Broken Arrow campground on the south shore of Diamond Lake, through the North Entrance of Crater Lake, around the the lake then back to Broken Arrow. These bike rides were all done the weekend before Labor Day. The other time was in July. So I've never witnessed snow around the lake but have only seen photos. It is very beautiful. One of these days I may go see the snow around the lake for myself but probably not too soon.
