New Deal Art - Timberline Lodge

Timberline Lodge is a National Historic Landmark located on the southern flank of Mount Hood just below Palmer Glacier, at approximately 6,000 feet (1,800 m) above sea level. The Lodge was built by the Works Progress Administration in 1936 and 1937. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt dedicated the lodge in September 1937. The Lodge is not just a stunning location offering classic accommodations and dining, it is also a museum of sorts for quot;New Deal Art.quot; Artists and craftsmen working under the Federal Art Project created art works and furnishing for the lodge. Recently, the Lodge has done extensive work to feature its art treasures with new lighting and some restoration.

Titled quot;Metalquot; or sometimes, quot;Metal Workers, quot; this large oil painting by Howard S. Sewall (1937) is located on the Mezzanine of the Lodge.
