Ferns - San Juan Island

We toured San Juan Island on our tandem bicycle the past couple days. It works out to be about 29 miles (46+ km) to ride around the island. Little of the route is anything but a steep grade up or down. By going this time of year, we avoid the tourists, but we chance it with the weather. We were lucky ... our weather was mostly chilly and damp with cloudy skies. But, the rain held off to an occasional light drizzle.

We were climbing up the steepest grade and stopped mid-way to walk the bike as it was just too steep for a safe transit on the tandem. This was a deep forested section of the route. Walking past this bed of ferns, we stopped so I could get out the tiny G9X I carry on the bike. I liked the color and contrast.
