A View from the Edge
This photo was captured from a vantage overlooking the beach about 300 yards (300 m) from our house on the Oregon coast. It is a view looking west from the continent's edge. At this latitude, the next land is over 4,200 miles (6750 km) away (the island of Ilturup in eastern Russian territory). The sun had set, but it illuminated the distant sky in a deep orange.
If you look closely at the center of the photo, you may be able to see a squadron of pelicans flying north as they search for a late dinner.
