Built in 1915, the Crater Lake Lodge is sited overlooking the lake from the top of the rim. As NP lodges go, it is small and relatively plain. But, it remains a favorite ... for the spectacular view from its deck to the compact size which, quite frankly, limits the number of people it can accommodate.

The photo was captured as the sun rose over the northeastern rim. I had set up the camera on a snow bank to capture the sunrise over the lake. Then my eye caught the light on the cloud layer forming over a promontory behind the lodge. The light and shades of colors were spectacular!
