This is a view of the North Fork of the Skokomish River as seen from the Staircase Rapids Trail in the Olympic National Park. This somewhat remote site is located at the southeastern corner of the Park. Along with skirting these scenic rapids, the trail winds through giant cedar trees, one of which demolished a steel footbridge by falling over it. Thus ended the "loop trail" that used to exist.
This trail is billed as being accessible year-round. Perhaps if one owns some sort of gargantuan four-wheel drive vehicle the likes of which would make Tony Hayward smile. My trail access vehicle is a Honda Insight... I thought I'd better get there before the next snowfall...
