Not a particularly breathtaking photo, the subject is, nevertheless, worthy of capturing. This is a view looking west from the The Steens Mountain Loop Road in southeastern Oregon... somewhat close to the Nevada border. The panorama image captures about a 145º arc. Almost completely lost in the haze, the horizon is defined by the Klamath Range about a hundred miles away. This photo covers a lot of territory. Yet..., there is nothing but open range. No structures. No freeways. No ranches. No shopping malls. No casinos. This is what home looked like less than two centuries ago.

Tech Note: This is a panorama image captured by merging five individual photos quickly taken in a sweeping arc. The photos are merged via imaging software in this case Photoshop CS 4. The "native resolution" of the image is W80" X H15" and contains 197 mb of data in 8 bit TIFF format. It has been reduced in size and condensed to a jpg image for posting in this gallery.
