Clifden Castle
Clifden Castle was a home as opposed to a fortification. It was built in 1818-1820 by John D'Arcy, considered by many to be the founder of Clifden. It has a commanding view of Clifden Bay below. Owing to a series of family debt and land disputes, the structure fell into disrepair and only its shell has remained for the past century.
