Clare Island Ferry

The crew hand loads the Clare Island Ferry. It is a multi-purpose vessel ferrying passengers and supplies to/from Clare Island [the vessel can even carry a vehicle or two]. The island is about eight kilometers (five miles) off the west coast of Ireland. Supplies are needed as during the summer there are two pubs and one tiny grocery.

A 13th century abbey is on the island in which there are the remnants of medieval frescoes. The abbey was locked, but the key is handed out by the clerk at the grocery a short walk away. [Unfortunately, no photography was permitted inside the abbey.]
