While it is well known for golfing, Palm Springs (California USA) also offers some great hiking opportunities. The small city is located on the desert floor, but is tucked up to the base of a sizeable mountain. The canyons and slopes have some challenging trails with spectacular scenery.

One of the better known trails, the Lykken Trail, takes off right from downtown Palm Springs and quickly ascends the slope overlooking the city. This panorama photo shows the view from a “rest stop” along the Lykken Trail. The panorama covers about 180⁰ from the wind generator farms to north (on the left of the image) to Palm Canyon to the south (on the right of the image). The ridge on the horizon (left to center-right) is the southern edge of Joshua Tree National Park.
