Day 9 - Recording Memorials
Lynnae and I have been involved with a project to preserve/restore a churchyard in Clifden, Ireland. On our second trip to Clifden this year we joined an archaeologist and local volunteers in a key event, the "mapping" of monuments. Each headstone, plaque and any other memorial item (this included chairs!) was photographed and a record of the text was carefully written down in an elaborate process to assure accuracy. Outdoor memorials were located via GPS. All of this information will be checked again for accuracy and placed on a data base to be posted on the internet.
In this photo, Lynnae confirms the reading of the text with our guide archaeologists as the information on a memorial plaque is placed onto a record sheet.
