Skylight Cave

Skylight Cave is actually a lava tube east of Mt. Washington in Oregon's Cascade Range. Over the eons, portions of the ceiling to the lava tube have fallen in thereby creating "skylights."

Photo capture required a tripod and extended exposure. Headlights are needed to navigate the uneven surface inside the lava tube as well as avoid hitting one's head. We augmented the headlights we had with Lume Cubes - very bright portable spotlights used in night photography. Access to the entrance requires a vehicle with AWD or 4WD. So, getting there is an adventure in itself.
